Why Social Media Is Important For The Automotive Industry

Updated: Apr 21, 2022

My experience of working at Mitsubishi Motors opened up my eyes to how the automotive industry uses Social Media, both for manufacturers themselves but also dealers too. When I launched our first Social Media training for dealerships I truly started to understand how dealers were approaching Social.

What's the Impact?

Customers don't just shop in store anymore especially when the popularity of car leasing is increasing and unexpected events happen (like Covid-19) . It means Social Media is key in order to reach not just the current customer but also your past and present customers too.

Why? Because you want to continue creating relationships! Relationships are not just important physically but digitally too, if a customer visited your dealership you wouldn't ignore them, so why would you ignore them on digital channels too? It means that you could be losing out on a sale.

Being there is not just enough though - you need to advertise and engage with your digital spaces as you would your physical car dealership. There are many ways to effectively do this whether that's through community management, a content strategy, Facebook marketplace, ads, and more!

So How Can Social Be Effective For Your Dealership?

Make someone responsible. You're probably here reading this blog because you know you need to be doing more Social Media and you'll most likely be wondering how to be more effective. The first point of action is to make someone responsible for your Social Media. It sounds simple but you need someone to take responsibility of that channel and put their mark on it. Feed in specific actions and targets into their role so that it doesn't just become something that sits on the sidelines with the occasional post here and there.

There's been no better time to set your online strategy in motion so give me a bell if you want to get started and stay tuned for more blogs!
